Free hours of bike storage available for commuters using Caltrain’s e-lockers at 24 stations!

For those of you commuting on the train, Caltrain is making it easier to bike to and from their stations by providing bike storage. In fact, Caltrain just installed the 500th on-demand bike e-locker space on the corridor and is offering new customers 100 free hours starting from the first time they use the BikeLink app to access a locker.

In addition, customers that use a locker before the end of June will be entered into Caltrain's contest where 5 lucky winners will get 500 additional free storage hours!

How do Caltrain's e-lockers work?

For commuters who want to bike for either the first leg or last leg of their commute but don't want to keep their bike with them all day, Caltrain has made it possible to store a bike or e-bike overnight or when the commuter is at work. Standard e-lockers are available for 5 cents per hour, with large spaces for big bikes available for 8 cents per hour.

When you start your account through the BikeLink app, you will be asked to pre-load it with $5.00 and then the promotional credit of 100 free hours will be applied. Caltrain recommends reserving plenty of time on your e-locker rental since any unused time will be refunded to your account.

What does Caltrain's bike storage setup look like in practice? It could involve using a traditional pedal bike or an e-bike to ride from your home to a Caltrain station on your way to work, parking your vehicle in an e-locker, boarding the train and walking to work. On your way home, your bike will be waiting for you when you disembark from the train at your destination station. Alternatively, if getting to a train station from home is quick and easy, but your work isn't close to a station, you could store your bike or e-bike at the station closest to your work and ride the bike or e-bike to your job. When you head home after your work day is done, you could bike to the station and store your vehicle there overnight or over the weekend.

A video about how to use the e-lockers is available here. Visit Caltrain.com/bikes for more information about taking a bike on board the train or for other bike related information.

Speaking of pairing trains and bike riding... email info@manzanita.works to see if you qualify for either Caltrain's Pass Forward program or our Essential Wheels e-bike loaner program where essential workers can borrow an e-bike for free for up to one year! The program's commuter e-bikes can be stored in one of Caltrain's e-lockers.

P.S. Congrats on the end of the academic year to many of the essential workers we serve who are educators and school employees! Please let us know how we can continue to support you and see whether you’d benefit from any of our other programs and resources.
